October 6, 2010 we are south of Brookings at Sandy’s brother’s place. Tom and Jan took us down the California Coast to hike Fern Canyon. It was about a 50 mile drive each direction plus about 7 miles of gravel road through the Redwoods to the end of the road along the Pacific Ocean. It’s a short hike but a very gratifying one amongst all those fern. We hiked up the canyon through the creek then took the path on our return above the canyon.
To get to Fern Canyon you take a gravel road west off of highway 101 at Davison Rd Which is north of Orick California. Davison Road starts at a prairie where there is usually a herd of elk.
How to View the Pictures
Before clicking on one of the thumbnails to see the slides you should enlarge the window as much as possible. The function key F-11 should give you a full screen. Now click on the first thumbnail to start the pictures. When you hover over the lower center of the picture you will see the arrows to click on to go forward or back. I suggest you advance the pictures manually rather than pushing the center one for the slide show. That will give you time to view and read the captions. To cancel the full screen, push the F-11 key again.
