Pio Pico Thousand Trails Preserve east of Chula Vista
We arrived at the Pio Pico Thousand Trails preserve on November 11, 2010. This preserve is located east of Chula Vista, California. From the RV you can hike up fire roads up to vistas. There was a very high peak that was six miles from camp but we never did try the 12 mile hike. A few miles to the east of Pio Pico is a trail head that has a 5.7 mile loop which can be expanded to an 8 mile loop. We did the longer loop first then later we did the shorter loop. We have pictures of the shorter loop. We also drove to the beach and walked two plus miles down the beach. That was a pleasant change in hiking views. It was about 25 miles to the Silver Strand State Park. There are miles of beach there just south of San Diego. On December 2 we left Pio Pico for Wilderness Lakes which was 100 miles to the north in Menifee.
How to View the Pictures
Before clicking on one of the thumbnails to see the slides you should enlarge the window as much as possible. The function key F-11 should give you a full screen. Now click on the first thumbnail to start viewing the pictures. When you hover over the lower center of the picture you will see the arrows to click on to go forward or back. I suggest you advance the pictures manually rather than pushing the center one for the slide show. That will give you time to view and read the captions. To cancel the full screen, push the F-11 key again.
