While at Seaside on July 8 we drove the 22 miles to the trail head taking us to the top of Saddle Mountain. To drive to the trail head from Seaside we went south on 101 just a few miles to the Sunset Highway, Highway 26 towards Portland. About 15 miles from Seaside you will see the road that gos to the Saddle Mountain State Park. At the end of the road is where the hike begins. The hike has an elevation gain of 1630 feet and the elevation at the top is 3283 feet. It is 2.5 miles to the top making it a five mile hike. To do that it adds up to a very steep trail. I have never seen so many wild flowers in one area since one of my back pack trips into the Goat Rock Wilderness Area which is south of Mt Rainier at McCall Basin. That was many years ago.
How to View the Pictures
Before clicking on one of the thumbnails to see the slides you should enlarge the window as much as possible. The function key F-11 should give you a full screen. Now click on the first thumbnail to start the pictures. When you hover over the lower center of the picture you will see the arrows to click on to go forward or back. I suggest you advance the pictures manually rather than pushing the center one for the slide show. That will give you time to view and read the captions. To cancel the full screen, push the F-11 key again.
